King’s Church started in September 2002, when a group of people began to meet in Darren and Jacky’s living room. In those early days we looked at what the purpose of King’s Church would be and how it would be underpinned with five simple values. We thought about how cells and Sunday celebrations would be a structure that would facilitate us living out our purpose and values in daily life. We also spent a lot of time praying together and enjoying each other’s company. Some key Bible verse for us in those days were - Isaiah 42:9 Deuteronomy 1:6-7 Isaiah 9:10 Isaiah 61:5 Isaiah 35
Next we started a Sunday meeting in a community centre in Whittle Hall and ran a leadership-training course for those interested in looking into what it would mean to be a cell leader [we still run this course 2 or 3 times a year though it has evolved somewhat]
Cells were opened and Sunday services continued to grow, having out grown the community centre we moved our Sunday gatherings to Barrowhall Junior School in May 2003.
King’s has always been about helping people to live out and explore their faith in ways that are both relevant and effective in the 21st century. We have sought to create an environment where people can come as they are and move towards what they could become.
As new cells continued to open and Sunday gatherings grew, we needed to move our Sunday venue again and so in April 2007 we relocated to Barrow Hall Theatre in Great Sankey High School.
The journey of King’s Church continues, we enjoy working with other Churches and organizations in the town to see our area impacted by the kindness and love of God.
It is a delight to continue to see people entering into a friendship with God, building real relationships with other followers of Jesus and learning how to share God’s love in word and action with people who may not have ‘God stuff’ high on their life agenda.
