At King’s we believe that the fact that a person is a follower of Jesus can impact all of life. Our Purpose, Values and Structure are in place to help this to happen.
All Involved
We believe that all people are made in God’s image and therefore have the capability of great creativity. There are dreams and desires within people that God has put there for them to be people who make a significant contribution to the world in which we live. So followers of Jesus can be catalytic people who impact and change for the better the world around them. We believe that all followers of Jesus have at least one gift or skill that they are to discover and deploy.
Believing and Doing what the Bible Says
We believe Jesus, Himself, told an important story with a meaning about how we should handle the Bible. Matthew 7:24–27. In v24 Jesus speaks about “a wise man” that both “hears” and then “puts into practice” what he says. It is important to know what the Bible says, but not to stop there, we also are to put it into practice. It is not simply how much we know about the Bible that determines our Spiritual maturity, it is what we do with what we know.
At King’s Church the Word of God is preached on Sunday, and then in the Cell Groups, we look together at how we can apply the Word to our lives.
Community of Committed Relationships
We believe that God loves people and that as we are impacted by that love it must have an effect on our relationships with others. In many religions people are thought of as more ‘spiritually mature’ if they isolate themselves and are “unaffected” by contact with other people. This is a gross misunderstanding. Growing up spiritually is not an individual pursuit. You cannot reach your potential as a Christian in isolation. To grow, as God intends us to, we must interact with people around us and therefore we must be a community of committed relationships so that we can learn to love like Jesus does. At King’s we say that there are, ‘No Perfect People Allowed’, so we learn to accept people as they are and encourage them to be what they could become.
Doing Evangelism
We believe that because of the love of God we are invited as followers of Jesus to join Him in the great adventure of Sharing Him with the world. We believe that every follower of Jesus can be involved in this in a way that is in keeping with the person that God has made them. We are to taking the timeless message of Good News and sharing it in a way that is both creative and relevant to the people with whom we are communicating. We aim to connect with our culture and make the message accessible to as many people as possible. Evangelism is not something we do only in our spare time with people we don’t know, it is something that impacts our daily lives. We believe that evangelism is a process. That, according to John 4:35 – 38, involves both sowing and reaping. So evangelism involves many different steps and stages. In this we see that all followers of Jesus can be a part of a team of people working together, to present the Good News to people around us.
Empowered by and Acknowledging the Sovereignty of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the Church and in the world. He is the one who empowers us to live for God and to know and make Jesus known. All of the things that we aim to do and to be rely upon the empowering work of the Holy Spirit.
